Inspiration: The Photo Man

Every now and then, inspiration seem to hide behind little clouds of frustration, stress or lack of focus. In order to reset my mind and break a negative spiral of overthinking, I revert to Vimeo or YouTube. And one morning – of a day that had grand plans set out for it, yet got sidetracked by a pattern of procrastination — this short-story film brightened my day.

This is so beautifully done! There is a stillness, a presence that could just as well have been a photographic essay. The author and photographer is Ben Kitnick.

The photographs, the prints, vernacular photography, the real life of photographs – in peoples lives as part of history, belonging, culture and identity. Photography outside the realms of journalism, art, documentary – just simple basic photography. There is a truth to photography that this film portray really well.

What will this story look like in 50 years? After the majority of vernacular photography are digital files that vaporize inside cellphones made obsolete, images lost in clouds over passwords dying with the lives of the Cloud-account owner? Will we have digital graveyards for the record of mankind? Or will the absurd amount of exposures we produce obsolete the whole idea on behalf of the random number of photographs that will survive the poor odds?

Anyway, enjoy these 7 minutes of poetry in moving image.
